Emerson--The third in my Hopper Series

Hi Everyone,
"Emerson" original watercolor on 260lb Arches by Carrie Waller 6" x 6"

Hope you had a great weekend.  Our weekend started well and then everyone got sick:(((  In fact I've not had a voice for 2 days now.  Brian's (my hubby) theory is that we're given a life word allotment and when you've used to many up you have to make up for the overage.  As you can tell from that statement I'm the chatterbox of this relationship:)  Anyway I'm hoping we'll be on the mend soon and back to life as we know it.

I'm sharing my 3rd painting in my Hopper series.  Hopper read Ralph Waldo Emerson a lot and was influenced by his writing.  So for this painting I have some Emerson books, a poem by Emerson written in a journal and some wildflowers in a very simple jelly jar sitting on a Hopper painting that was influenced by Emerson.  I think the 3 paintings work well together.  I kept a similar color story running through the pieces.

Thought I'd share all 3 paintings so you can see them together.

  1. Carrie, these are absolutely stunning. "Emerson" is my favorite, altho Hopper runs a very close second--almost a tie! I love the reflections in the glass and the spoon in "Hopper". And I love the bright pot of orange in the flowers against the dark books in "Emerson". You will, of course, be accepted for this competition!

  2. Amazing! Love them all...so interesting to see the choices you made and how you executed them. I love Emerson too....wonder if the little sweet flowers in the glass jar put that one at the top for me? Exquisitely painted...all three!

I tell ya once school starts it's nothing but germs, germs, germs. School is a giant petri dish with little minions running around.

  8. These are a fantastic series that are destined to go a long way in the art-world. They are more than brilliant paintings. I love the way you have experimented with the layouts until 'they' told the story that 'you' wished to tell.

  9. Carrie, your "Hopper" series is a most creative, superbly worked and thoughtful group of paintings. You should be so proud of them! What an addition to that show (competition).

  11. They truly look beautiful together Carrie! The last one with the flowers in the jam jar is extremely cute. I find it some kind of nostalgic remembering sitting at the summer house reading and my Grandma would pick the garden flowers and stick them in whatever she found in the kitchen.
    Thanks,
    Irina
