These are a few of my favorite things

Thought I'd share some favorite things of mine:)

Favorite Fall Painting:

I love this painting of Heide Presse's "Oliver's Porch".  Heide paints with watercolor, casein and oils.  After seeing her works I bought casein paints, I didn't have much success with them, I may have to give it another go sometime.

Favorite Paints

It was love at first sight with Daniel Smith's quinacridone paints.  Couldn't live with out them.

Favorite Candle

I love candles and this is what I'm burning this month.  Smells so good!

Favorite Fall Candy

I hate to admit this but our family has already been through 2 bags of candy corn and it's not even October yet.

Favorite Artsy Flick
Watched this documentary while painting this month.  It's fascinating.  I was thrilled when I found out that the Arkansas Art's Center just had the opening for an exhibit "50 for Arkansas: the Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection." The couple's gift to Arkansas is part of the Vogels' "50X50" donation of 50 works to all 50 states, to institutions of their choice, making the Arts Center lucky as well. The remainder of the Vogel collection went to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.  Can't wait to see it.

Favorite Project Around the House
I decided to spruce up the front door of our house.  Left is the before picture it was pretty bland so I decided to paint it, Right shows the after.  We have a lot of stone work on our house so I wanted to pull some of that color for the door.  I was thrilled to find the perfect shade of paint in the Oops section at Home Depot for $2.  Pretty great improvement , money well spent:)

What are some of your favorite things?

  1. What a difference a coat of paint makes!
I can see why you like all of these things. like me, you obviously love Autumn colours :0)
If my son ate those sweets though, he'd be bouncing off the walls, lol! My favorite colours are also the hot ones. My front door is a deep red colour, as are many of the accessories in the house. Hmm, what else... Oh yes, I just love those winter spice candle too. Think I should buy one this afternoon. Wouldn't want to miss out! ;0)

  2. Those color swatches look SOOO inviting! And your photos are all wonderful! Oliver's porch is adorable, too. Are you painting with the new colors now? I'd love to see what you come up with!

  3. Wow, Carrie...are you my sister and I didn't know it? Other than the painting (mine is of a day lily that Janie Freeman sent to me...among a few others...) all those things are my absolute favs also. My daddy always had candy corn year round, and the reds are my preference, and I keep that very Yankee candle year round...gosh...who knew? I do prefer kitties, but would take Moose in a second. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Thanks for sharing and letting us know a little bit more about you! Heide Presse is one of my favorite too, and so are the Quinacridone colors! Their brilliance are unmatchable...

  5. Love your favorite things and thanks for sharing them! I cannot have candy corn in the house or I will devour it! One of my favorite things is seeing your works in well as the finished products! Your paintings are fabulous.

  6. WOW your door looks so awesome now! You really did a great job, I don't know why, since I'm an artist, but I'm always amazed at what a difference a fresh coat of paint makes. :)

I loved this peek into your favorite things Carrie. So fun. :D

  7. Love the home improvements, you picked the perfect colour for your front door, amazing the difference a lick of paint can make.

  8. Don't you think its amazing when we get excited over a change of color? The door looks wonderful, Carrie!! as far as the candy!!! my favorite!!

  9. Fun post...I've had this movie on our list to see and glad to know it's good- we will be at the National Gallery in D.C. soon, can't wait to see their collection!(love candy corn!)

  10. Oh such a fun post Carrie! Thanks for sharing. The door looks great. We have lots in common, so wished we lived closer, I think we'd have fun! :)
