Day 25/30
Fall is in the air and I can't wait to see all the leaves change to their vibrant colors.  I found this beautiful leaf in the process of changing colors and I thought it was just so pretty it should stay just the way it is:) I'm having fun with gold leaf.  Too bad it doesn't photograph so well, but it's so pretty in person:)

Carol Carter interview tomorrow on AHA

Hi Everyone,

You must tune in tomorrow for an interview with the fabulous Carol Carter.  I'm co-hosting Artists Helping Artists blog radio show (the #1 art blog radio show) for the month of October and I'm so excited about tomorrow's show.  Carol is one of my art heroes and now a personal friend.  When I decided to start my watercolor blog 3 years ago I started researching other watercolor artists for inspiration.  She was the first artists I came across on-line and I was hooked!!!  Her work is bold, colorful and flat out amazing!  Since then I've had the privilege to interview her here on my blog.  I also reached out to her for advice and she has been supportive and just amazingly generous with her knowledge and time.  I have since taken a workshop with her in St. Louis.  And during my last visit to STL I visited her fabulous studio and went out on the town.  I just love it when someone you admire turns out to be the real deal and just as nice and genuine in person as you hoped they would be.

I'm also running my Fall Special with the paintings below at 50% off.

Candy Apple Red

Hi Everyone,
'Candy Apple Red' original watercolor on paper copyright 2011 Carrie Waller BUY NOW
Today I have a delightfully, delicious, subject:)  I have been wanting to paint candy apples all Summer.  Fall came speeding towards me and I thought, good I'll see if I can pick some up at the store to paint.  Well, I was disappointed because they always have to ruin a good shiny apple with the addition of peanuts.  So in the name of art I had to figure out how to make some.  Steven was my Soux Chef.  We made an entire batch of absolutely beautiful to look at but break your teeth off if you ate them candy apples.  I photographed them ad nauseaum in every kind of light and configuration, decorated with them in my kitchen for a week and then deposited them in the garbage.  Hope you like my 'Candy Apple Red'
Steven's Fall pic 8.5 x 11 crayon on paper (See his tree and all of the leaves at the bottom)

Steven's original watercolor on paper 8.5 x 11.  This one is a little more abstract, see all of shapes at the bottom.
Steven was in the swing of things and has 2 lovely artworks to contribute to our post.  He is at the age now where he starting to get frustrated if he can't get his artworks to represent something instead of just throwing down his colors in an abstracted way.  It is interesting to watch the journey of a young artist.

Have a great Monday, everyone.

See you Wednesday:)

Crawfish on Newsprint

watercolor and ink on paper 6x6 $195.00  BUY NOW
Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend.  We traveled to Louisiana last week to spend Easter with my husband's parents.  We had a lovely time.  We celebrated by having a crawfish and shrimp boil.  As soon as I heard that we were going to do this my mind went to where my mind always goes-- to art!   So while everyone one was drooling over dinner, they had to patiently wait while I photographed these beauties.  It wasn't until I got home that I realized they were sitting on a newspaper discussing the oil leak and the 1 yr anniversary of the BP oil spill.  So a painting was born.  I will probably revisit crawfish because they are really gorgeous in color and I got some great shots of them.

I'm also happy to announce that my painting 'Nostalgia' the 6x6 version sold at the Randy Higbee Gallery.  The 6"squared show is in full swing and chalk full of gorgeous available art.  'Dinner at Eight' is still available as far as I know, so check out Randy's site and take in the fabulous art.

Steven got his crayons out and created a nice picture for you this week.  I'm glad we're back into using colors:)
Hope everyone has a fabulous week,

Carrie
