Well Traveled Paintings

"The Night Before Christmas" 6" x 6" watercolor by Carrie Waller

"The Night Before Christmas" 6" x 6" watercolor by Carrie Waller

"Falling For You" 6" x 6" watercolor with 22k gold leaf by Carrie Waller

I'm happy to announce that I have 3 paintings on their way to California to the 6" Squared, Randy Higbee show.  This is the 4th time that I've participated in the show.  It's always been a super fun and positive experience.

In other news I'm attempting to paint for our Holiday show on Dec 3rd at Local Colour Gallery in Little Rock, AR.  But this overcast, cold weather is getting me down and I miss the sunny skies that we always had in Alabama.  I'm hoping when we move next summer it's somewhere sunny.

I also wanted to share how some of my collector's framed their leaf and acorn.  A good framing job just enhances art so well.

I wish everyone a Happy Turkey Day and if you're traveling be careful out there:)

Work In Progress Wednesday

Hi Everyone,
"Summer Kaleidoscope"  11" x 14" WIP watercolor by Carrie Waller
"Summer Kaleidoscope" 6" x 6" version SOLD

Here is my latest work in progress (WIP).  This may look familiar because I did a 6x6 version for the Randy Higbee show, which I'm happy to say sold and my body of work was recognized in the show by Executive Director, Jean Stearn of the Irvine Museum in CA as some of the best works in the competition.

I'm working away on some competition deadlines.  Why do these always sneak up on me  when the dates don't vary too much from year to year.  Some day I'll be organized:)  Speaking of disorganized I attempted to take Steven to school today only to find out he doesn't go until tomorrow.  We'll just consider that a practice run, Ha!  Steven was thrilled to have one more day off and we all got up and dressed early so maybe it will make for a smoother day tomorrow.

Work In Progress Wednesday

Hi Everyone,

Everything is in progress.  I wish I could add some hours to the day or maybe extend December by about a month, how does that sound to you:))

I'm doing a larger version of a 6x6 I did for Randy Higbee's show.  This is 11 x 14 and rectangular.

This is the 6x6 "Summer Kaleidoscope" original watercolor by Carrie Waller

My Christmas decorating is also a work in progress.  I'm beginning to think the pumpkins add a certain charm:))

Winter and great news

"Winter" watercolor on 260lb Arches by Carrie Waller
Hi Everyone,

I'm a day delayed in my post because it's Thanksgiving break at our house and yesterday we took the day off:)  I'm so glad that the boys are home all week.  We also have family coming into town tomorrow.  We are excited at our house:)  Let the pie making commence!!!

I'm sharing my latest painting.  This is a painting of my Grandmother, which she will not be fond of because she'll want to know why she has trees coming out of her head, ha:)  I took this photo of her on our last visit before she moved out of her home of 60 years.  She was standing behind the storm door in her house coat bidding her farewells.  I titled it Winter because it is the Winter of her life and  the Winter of her time living at her home in Goreville, IL.  The trees in the reflection and snippets of the property that you can see are very reminiscent and have a lot of meaning for me.  Having said all that, painting portraits is not in my wheel house and I have a lot to learn.  What I wouldn't have given to have Crystal Cook over my shoulder during this process.

I also have some great news.  All 4 of my entries in to the Randy Higbee 6" Squared show have made the cut and are heading to Cal-i-forn-i-a.  If only I could go with them:))  I'm ecstatic to be participating in this show for the 3rd time.

Hope you all have a fabulous Turkey Day (for all my US friends).  For the rest of you, you just don't know what you're missing:))  I'll save you a plate, come on by!!!

Trick or Treat

"October Bounty" original watercolor on Arches paper 18"x24" Available for Purchase 50% off

It's October, I'm still in denial!  Where is the time going.  I have an extensive list of paintings I want to paint for competitions and I paint at a snail's pace.  It certainly is a balancing act trying to fit in all the kid stuff, family stuff and wife stuff on top of the artist stuff.  I'm sure you can all relate:)  So while I'm currently working on a commission I thought I would share an oldie but goodie, surely to have you salivating but hopefully not adding any inches to your waist.  I painted this 2 years ago.  It was fun to paint and I have it on an easel in my living room adding to the Halloween decor.  I'm offering it half price for a Halloween sale.

Also for my Halloween Special I'm offering my painting "Candy Apple Red" at 50% off.  Regularly $195.00  on SALE for  $97.50.

I also thought I would share the marketing material for Randy Higbee's upcoming December 6x6 show.  I was thrilled to see he used my painting on the brochure.  Can you figure out which on is mine:))  Ha!

Also I've entered Daniel Smith's 11th annual customer art contest.  They have fabulous prizes but you the downside is you have to get votes.  So I would greatly appreciate it if you would vote for me.  Once you click on the link put Waller in the search box and my painting "Anitcipation" will come up.  Then just hit the vote button.  Thank you in advance :)

Crawfish on Newsprint

watercolor and ink on paper 6x6 $195.00  BUY NOW
Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend.  We traveled to Louisiana last week to spend Easter with my husband's parents.  We had a lovely time.  We celebrated by having a crawfish and shrimp boil.  As soon as I heard that we were going to do this my mind went to where my mind always goes-- to art!   So while everyone one was drooling over dinner, they had to patiently wait while I photographed these beauties.  It wasn't until I got home that I realized they were sitting on a newspaper discussing the oil leak and the 1 yr anniversary of the BP oil spill.  So a painting was born.  I will probably revisit crawfish because they are really gorgeous in color and I got some great shots of them.

I'm also happy to announce that my painting 'Nostalgia' the 6x6 version sold at the Randy Higbee Gallery.  The 6"squared show is in full swing and chalk full of gorgeous available art.  'Dinner at Eight' is still available as far as I know, so check out Randy's site and take in the fabulous art.
'Nostalgia' SOLD                              'Dinner at Eight' Available

Steven got his crayons out and created a nice picture for you this week.  I'm glad we're back into using colors:)
Hope everyone has a fabulous week,

Carrie

I Need Your Help--Vote for your Favorites

Hi Everyone,

I've just finished the last of my 6x6's for the Randy Higbee contest.  I'm titling this one 'Nostalgia'.  This chair is my Grandma's chair.  It has been sitting on her back porch for as long as I can remember.  The last time I visited, I decided to photograph this chair because I love all of the age and layers of paint.  My Grandma asked me why I wanted  to take a picture of that old chair, she said she's been meaning to refinish it.  I told her I thought it was beautiful and to please not refinish it, I'm hoping one day to own this chair.  I photographed it in front of her hydrangea bushes.  These also remind me so much of my Grandma's house.  I thought it was fitting that the blooms were at the end of their life, very fitting for the chair.

Now I need your help, I'm going to enter 4 out of the 6 and I really need your opinion.  I have each one labeled with a letter, please choose your top 4 and let me know.  You can leave a comment below, e-mail me at carriewallerart@gmail.com or leave me a message on facebook.  I value your opinion:)

Thanks everyone!  Hope you have a fabulous weekend.  Oh and the deadline is Monday, so please respond in a timely fashion,  I'm very grateful for your opinions and comments!  Please Vote:)
