Feeling a little all over the place.

Hi Everyone,

I'm a little all over the place lately, literally and figuratively.  We have had a cram packed summer at the Waller casa.  We have moved our household, traveled to New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Charleston, SC, Montgomery, AL and had family visit a few times in between. I've taught a workshop, planned a show for military spouses (click here for details, deadline August 31st, open to artists that are military spouses, a spouse of a retired military member or veteran), forgotten to register a kid for school (problem resolved), had my 6 year old become a 7 year old, I became another year older and almost lost my mind in the process.

During all this chaos little painting has happened.  I did manage to finish a commission that I can't share yet, and I'm currently in the research phase of another one.  I do have 2 other paintings going, which is not like me at all, I normally finish a piece before I start another but I've had one dragging on since last March and my current painting is anxiously awaiting.  I'm feeling hopeful that I will log in some painting hours this week, school has officially started.
Left is the beginning of the day, Right side is a happy 1st grader:)
It was an emotional 1st day for for 1st grader, I left him crying at his desk this morning which made me want to yank him out of school and start homeschooling.  However, by lunch time all was right with the world, phew!!!  My youngest is starting Pre-K, we had orientation today.  Tomorrow is his 1st day, say a prayer for us both:)  He left today saying he wanted to come back lots of days to his class, so I take that as a good sign:)  He already has 1 friend from pre-school in the class.  How do you parents do this?  It's going to be a long 12 years of Elementary and then you have to send them off to college, it's just too much:)

Good luck to all those school aged kids that have started their first days, may it be a successful year for you and your parents!  Now I'm off to cook dinner, pack some lunches, lay out some clothes for tomorrow and hopefully get brush to paper for a couple hours:)

  2. Ah Carrie...I found your question profound. Why? I so miss those days when I took my girls to school, each new year with new supplies. Now? My two oldest grandkids are about to start 4th grade! 4th grade! I can still see my own little girls on their first day of school. It tears at my heart the way time has just flown by so quickly. I love the start of your paintings you have here. I look forward to seeing them finished too. Things will settle into a routine quickly, I am sure.

  3. So glad the school issues resolved. One day you will be surprised at how quickly the years have passed. My grandson Jacob came here in kindergarten and is now in 8th grade and as tall as me.

What size are these paintings? They are coming along beautifully.

  5. Wow, now I need a nap from reading all of this activity! Trust me, some day you will be glad to see school starting - it's a "mom thing"! Your in progress paintings are coming along beautifully, and sounds like your career is really getting started.

  6. Carrie, I'm finally back from my trip to China and was able to catch on with the reading of all your interesting posts this summer... I really love these two paintings, and was intrigued by the unusual warm orange palette you are using for me -- a little bit different from your usual favorite cool blue-green palette! They really look fabulous. You do have an eye for great composition! I learn so much about composition every time I study the cropping of your painting! I especially love the first one -- I can see the roses in this painting are contained in beautiful ball-shaped glass containers but could not guess what they are. A hint?

  7. I can empathize Carrie. I've done it twice! The last emotional day for me, which had me in floods, was a few weeks ago when Charlie (my youngest) left school! That made me feel quite sad - he is all grown up! He starts college in September along side a job... I feel a little redundant! Bring in Sherlock - the new Puppy! Yes, he is filling a hole of sorts, lol!
Anyway - the painting at the top is going to be just what I thought. The reflections of what's above in a bubbly pond... This is just the sort of thing I would love to paint. Amazing! And don't beat yourself up about lack of painting time. Life gets in the way all the time! I have the same battle! :0)
