Work In Progress Wednesday: Italian Heritage

Hi Everyone,
WIP "Italian Heritage" 11 x 14 watercolor on 260 lb Arches by Carrie Waller

I'm working on a commission piece this week.  It's a tribute to my clients childhood and heritage.  Each component in this composition has special meaning.  Now I'm off to work on the painting.

  1. it's beautiful, reminds me of my Grandma's kitchen, just missing the wooden spoon she used to stir the sauce :)

    1. Maria, a wooden spoon would have been good:) Going for an Old World, nostalgic feel.

  2. Can't wait to see the myth gradually unveiling itself! I can see the olive oil can... I am curious about your process discussing with your client what to include -- Carrie, do you set the still life yourself after discussing with the client what to include? If you do not have a certain item, do you go ahead and purchase one, or do you ask her to send the item to you for the duration of photographing?

    1. Arena, we had several conversations. She mailed me the olive oil can because it comes from Sicily. I purchased the produce, but the other props are mine. I always set the still life up because I want specific lighting. It just wouldn't be as good without the dramatic lighting.
