CYBER MONDAY SALE, Backlit Beauties, and other news

Hi Everyone,

I'm so happy to announce my first ever  CYBER MONDAY SALE.  Please take a look:)

I have available paintings up to 50% off:)

I also am getting read for a gallery show tomorrow at Local Colour Gallery in Little Rock.

I've been working a little more with gold leaf.  I'm titling this piece "Backlit Beauties".  I photographed these gorgeous red pears in the beautiful golden sun and I thought that the gold leaf would be the perfect thing to set them off.

"Backlit Beauties" 10" x 20" watercolor with 22k gold leaf background
$350
Here it is in it's frame.  It's so hard to photograph gold leaf.

And I thought I would show you this view so you can see a bit of the scale.
I hope you all had a wonderful Turkey Day (for those of you in the US).  I can not believe it's Dec. 2.  We'll have to start writing 2014 before we blink.

Sepia Pears

Today I started teaching private lessons with a student.  The first painting I have my students do is a monochromatic painting (with the exception of the background which is a sepia/indigo mix) in sepia.  I do this so that students can learn to establish their values immediately.  Plus it eliminates having to think about mixing colors because you only get one.  I have always loved sepia paintings.  I spent the first 6 mos to a year to a lot of sepia paintings when I first started painting.  I have talked with other artists that began that way as well.

We had a good first lesson and I'm looking forward to working with him.

These are 4 monochromatic paintings that I did from architectural details I found all over Europe.  I was always on the hunt for these round details.  The top one from was a church in Cambridge, England, the next one down was found in Prague, the 3rd one down was a manhole cover in Paris (they design everything), and the bottom one was from the Palace Versailles.

These have hung in every house we have lived in during our 12 years of marriage and I will not part with them:)

Friday Feature: Watercolor Wrap Up

Last weekend I held my 3 day watercolor workshop in Mt. Vernon, Illinois at the Shrode Art Center.  I had a fabulous group of students and just like every workshop and any time you get a group of artists together ideas were flowing.  I always think I learn just as much as my workshop participants.

We started on day 1 painting pears.  First in sepia and then in color.  This exercise gets everyone playing in their paint and working on getting strong values.  I also begin the day with a presentation.
Me demoing the green pears.  I paint from my ipad now.  I think I  have a couple converts in the class now:)

On day 2 we began the day talking about my process and how I set up my till life set ups.  I showed a step by step demo of the painting we were going to be working on.  We painted "Spin the Bottle".  Everyone did a fabulous job painting glass, getting their values established and creating the 3 dimensional bottle.
My demo.  Love painting from my Ipad.
Close up of me painting the bottom of my bottle.  Thank you Tracy for taking pictures:)

Day 3 I talked about my favorite tools and websites, talked a little marketing and favorite books.  We worked on painting ball jars.

Everyone watching me work on Ball Jars:)  Such a great group of students!!
