Orange daylily on patterned plate

watercolor on paper 11x 14

This is a dynamic piece. Our backyard was full of daylilies this summer.   They were beautiful.  We had every color in the rainbow.  I nicknamed our yard daylily row.  The orange flowers were so striking, I just had to paint one.

This piece is available just contact me if you're interested, carriewallerart@gmail.com.

I'm going to participate in my first monthly challenge hosted by Artists helping Artists blog.  The theme is "September".  Looking for any comments to help come up with an idea for this challenge, what do you think evokes the idea of "September".

Daylily row (backyard)
 watercolor on newsprint

Steven did a lovely watercolor this week.  He has survived his 2nd week at preschool and has emerged as the best overall color-er of the class.  These are his teacher's remarks, I might add.  He got out his paints this week and he wasn't too thrilled about painting on newsprint.  Can't say I blame him, but I wasn't expecting a paper snob at the age of 4.

See you all next week.

Carrie

  1. Stunning work. Your use of color is exquisite.
September reminds me of a fresh start, back to school, and Autumnal leaves. I was married in September and it is one of my favorite months of the year. It makes me start to think of sweaters and adding texture to my life.

  3. SO beautiful Carrie :) I love those intense colors. Add in the plate and it's super striking!

A four year old paper snob, heee! :) Cute!

I think I want to do some fall paintings too, I'm getting that urge for it to be Halloween, cuz I need an excuse to eat all those mini peanut butter cups ;)

  8. Beautiful work Carrie! Love the oranges and blues.
Too funny about the newsprint. My seven-year-old prefers my Faber-Castell watercolor pencils over his Derwents. He even has a 6x9 super deluxe aquabee sketchbook that goes with him every where. Kids are so inspiring! They have no fears or agenda. They just create!

  9. Hi Carrie, what a beautiful watercolor. I love the bright colors.

I'm glad Steven has learned early on not to waste him time painting on inferior paper.

  10. It's beautiful, Carrie. Your previous posts with the hydrangeas are stunning, too. That looks like a lot of work to paint each one of those petals.
