Hydrangeas

watercolor on paper 14 x 20

Ella supervising
I'm proud to share my labor of love this week.  Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers and when we moved into our house here I was thrilled to find out we had two very established bushes.  The first year we were here they were blue my favorite color of hydrangea, so I was a little disappointed when they popped up purple/pink this year. (I am now aware that I can alter the properties of my soil to achieve the blue ones next year)  I had to ask my neighbor for some of her blue hydrangeas.  I set up multiple still lives and spent an afternoon photographing them.  So, don't be surprised if you see a few more hydrangea paintings.

So enjoy my painting and please leave a comment:)

  3. Carrie - I don't know how you do it! Where in the world do you find the time to take care of the house, kids, your hubby and do your art?

I absolutely LOVE this painting! They look so realistic, I want to touch and smell them (not sure if they smell tho.). I love the material in the background, what is that from?

That is so cute Ella wanted to get in on the action. Cute picture of her....

Please pass an ounce of your talent to me....

  5. This is a lovely painting. I love hydrangeas too, but don't have the patience to paint them in such exquisite detail. Glad to see you have a feline supervisor too... (Sorry, made a typo in the previous comment).

  6. You've done a fantastic job Carrie! I love this painting, the variation of colors in the flowers is beautiful. Such delicate work, and done with a confident hand too. Really, really lovely. Also, great job with the vase, the curves look great, that's always tricky for me :)

  7. Carrie, the painting is beautiful! I love the hydrengea in the sugarbowl, I recognized the china right away. I still have one of the hydrengea arrangements you did for Sarah and Jon's rehearsal. I don't know how you managed finishing this with Brian gone, signing Steven up for preschool, getting shots etc. I've decided you must be superwoman! Keep up the beautiful work! Debbie

  8. Thanks everyone! There are a lot of petals on these hydrangeas and I think I just about went blind staring at them for so long. To answer questions about the still life. It is fabric draped in the background, but Kristina, it would make a super cute chair. I actually scoured fabric stores looking for fabric that I would like with the hydrangeas. The hydrangeas are in a soup tureen, it's large and there are a lot of bunches of hydrangeas in there. And as far as finding the time to paint, I will admit that I have gotten a little addicted to Diet Mt. Dew (this is really bad since I gave up caffeine a few years ago). But, you have to do what you have to do, and staying up until 2 a.m. to paint and getting up with munchkins requires caffeine:) I think I'm a glutton for punishment because I'm about to start another hydrangea painting, I think I'm addicted:) I appreciate everyone's comments, it makes me uber happy to read comments and know that people are viewing my work. Thanks again, everybody!!!!
