I love this time of year because our backyard comes to life with a rainbow of blooming day lilies. They are stunning. Last Summer I painted a similar painting so I decided to have an accompanying painting. I picked one of the gorgeous orange blooms and placed it on a plate that my husband I bought when we made a trip to Greece, which was a life long dream of mine. This plate is a hand-made plate from Rhodes, Greece by Bonis Pottery. All of that information is carved in the back of the plate. It hangs in my kitchen along with another hand-made plate from Greece.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous lilies and enjoy seeing the post below too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting- love the gorgeous colors of the day lily set against the darker colors of the plate. Just powerful! Enjoyed seeing your rainbow row of day lilies:) I will have to plant some:)
ReplyDeleteHi, I really like your lilies. You did a great job using the reds and oranges in them. This is not easy with watercolors. Your backyard is looking fantastic. I had some orange daylilies in my garden and they looked great too, when they were in bloom. I am sure you are getting a lot of inspiration from all your wonderful blooming flowers. Happy Painting!
ReplyDeleteWow - This is stunning! The colour against that beautiful plate works so well and the two paintings look wonderful together.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a gorgeous backyard you have! I bet the kiddies love the pool! :0)

Those paintings are just gorgeous! The way you play with light and render it to perfection with watercolors is amazing, thanks for the great post.
ReplyDeleteThese are stunning. Love them both.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful Carrie! I love the intense orange against the neutral background! LOVE your yard too!
ReplyDeleteCarrie, Your work is really top notch. I hope that you are going to enter the NWS Annual Exhibition Show.
ReplyDeleteLove the newest painting, also! The delicacy of the petals is amazing. The flower looks very fragile against the dark plate. Great shadow and light on that plate!
ReplyDeleteI love your day lilly garden. They always make me think of my mother. She grew lots of them in her yard.
Great competition you got there Carrie: both the plates and the lilies are so beautiful that it is hard to choose on what to start admiring from :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful pieces of art!
Thanks
Irina
The plate and daylily executed by you are a perfect recipe for beauty, Carrie! xo
ReplyDeleteYou finished it beautifully and the two paintings do look great together. I enjoyed hearing about how you acquired the plate and know first-hand how valuable that type of souvenir is... a wonderful memory of a place and time.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Suzanne... what can I bring to the pool party?
Bises,
Genie
