Pomegrantes and Cranberries

Pomegranates and Cranberries original watercolor on paper 6x6
SOLD

This week I'm trying something new.  I painted my first 6x6 painting.  All of the daily painters pretty much adhere to that size so I thought I would try it out.  I plan on doing a few of these now and then.  I'm trying to decide if this is an avenue I should  take next year, painting a mini masterpieces on a daily basis.  Hmmmm, what do you guys think?  What are the pros and cons?  This is also a preview into a still life that I will be working on soon.

We are all under the weather at our house.  Not only do we all have colds it is super cold here, it's just not natural for it to get this cold in the South.  And I am in disbelief that next Christmas is sooooo close.  So much to do still, Agggh!!

Even though Steven stayed home from school he still managed to muster up the strength to do a painting today.  He's really getting into including patterns into his paintings.  I think they're pretty fabulous:)

I hope you are all well, and staying warm.  Good luck with the last of your Holiday prep.

See you next week.

Carrie

  3. Carrie - When I first looked at your Pomegranates and Cranberries painting I thought it had to be oil. It looks fantastic and the colors are so nice and saturated. Great job! I've done several 6" x 6" paintings and I think they're a great break from larger, more time consuming (and space consuming) paintings. They keep me painting when I don't have time to do a large painting.

  4. Carrie - Your painting is stunning! It looks like acrylic because the colours are so rich! If you want to look at a blog full of daily paintings, pop in a visit Kim Rempels blog at EAT, Drink, Paint. She's a real inspiration :0)

Steven - You clearly get your arty side from your Mummy! You are very clever! I really like the colours you have chosen for your drawing :0D

  9. Carrie, this is a beautiful painting! The way you cropped it gives it a very interesting point of view. The deep color of the cranberries and pomegranates is very rich, and you've done a wonderful job on the glass dish. Great job! And Steven's painting is very sophisticated!

  10. Carrie, I think you will love painting 6x6's and 6x8's as you get comfortable with the size! I think this is an amazing painting, and I'm so sorry you're all feeling punky. Rest, fluids, and old movies on TV. Steven's piece is great, too. I do hope you're saving them..

  11. I always tell my children that it is not the big things - nor the great things, it is the little things in life that count. I love your painting and hope you all are feeling better and staying warm,

  12. I think this is very juicy and rich still life. The small size helps to make the art more affordable as artists should keep price lower compare to the bigger piece. The downside is that no matter how much time the artist spent on the art, if the painting is small, people expect to see the lower price...

  13. Great reds in this piece. The pros to daily painting of course is the constant practice. The only con that I've found is balancing that with a continuation of larger pieces They, too , are important and great practice.

  14. A smashing success. The light is so warm, almost as if you are next to a cosy fireplace on a cold winter's day. It certainly sold fast....which would indicate that when the work is good, someone is likely to grab it sooner than later, no matter the size. But for anybody on a tigher budget who still want to collect your artwork, it's a great opportunity. Happy Holiday Carrie!

  16. Carrie your Pomegranites and Cranberries is fabulous! The the warm rich colours and reflections just make this a real winner! I also really like Steven's painting. He's taking after his mom.

Thanks for the comment. I think you should keep doing exactly what you're doing because it's definitely excellent. Regarding your thoughts in this post, I've had similar thoughts. I paint as often as possible and use a small format with the idea of aiding and speeding my skill development, which is in fact happening and that's exciting. Now I'm starting to toy with the thought of applying to a daily painting site and wonder about the pros and cons myself. My biggest concern is time and being able to follow through on my commitment and still love painting at the end of it, plus having the time for the bigger pieces.

  18. Daily painting is one of the best things I ever did! You get a sense of closure and accomplishment every day. You do improve by leaps and bounds--fast. Also, each painting is less precious, because you know you'll do it again the next day. This is great for keeping the energy flowing!! Love your painting, especially the glass edge of the plate. My husband is also home sick from work, yucky winter blahs here. (:

  20. Once again I'm speechless with this painting. The colors are so rich and beautiful. You seem to work quickly and perfectly so maybe having a painting a day would work for you. If I was able to work a bit faster, I would do a painting a day! I hope you and your family get better for the holidays!
P.S. Steven is getting better every day!!
