Carnevale Revisited

watercolor on paper 18 x 24

water color on paper 18 x 24

This week I'm finishing up my mini-Italy series.  I've had great time reliving memories and capturing them in paint.  I have painted the first painting "Carnevale" 3 times.  The first time I didn't like it at all and quit mid-way through, the second time was okay, but this time I got the intensity I wanted.  I think it is a great companion piece to last weeks painting.  I love how the Buone Feste is all in blues and turquoises with little bits of red and pink and in comparison to this weeks with all of the golds, oranges, and reds with little bits of green.  They are very festive, and I have to say I'm pretty happy with the end result.  I got prints made of Buone Feste and I was very happy with them so I'll be doing the same with this one.  I actually found a place that can scan large works.  I'm really happy about this because these dark paintings with high contrast can be hard to photograph..

I can't believe we are closing  in on the Holidays!  This year has flown by.  Does anyone have fun Turkey Day plans?  I think we'll be staying home this year, but we're already planning our menu.  I think we'll put our tree up that evening.  Brian already got our lights up this weekend.  He took advantage of the gorgeous 70 degree weather we're having and got them hung, wearing shorts nonetheless.  Hope you had a terrific weekend!!!!

I do want to thank each and everyone one of you that stops by and visits my blog.   I'm so appreciative of this bloggy community.  It keeps me motivated and inspired.  I just passed my 100 follower mark, I can't tell you how thrilled that makes me:)  I started this blog less than a year ago and I feel like I have so much more I can do with it.  I have big plans for next year!!

Also don't forget to check out the Artists Helping Artists blog radio show.   You can download the shows and listen to them in itunes or call in live on Thursdays.  It has given me so much information and entertainment since I started tuning in.  Leslie and Dreama (the hosts) are fabulous, you feel like you're gabbing with your girlfriends, and they have had some fabulous guests and topics.  They also host a monthly painting challenge.  You should definitely participate in that if you are an artist.

Steven was sick most of the week, so we don't get a masterpiece this week.  He's feeling much better.

See you next week!

Carrie

  3. Carrie - These are absolutely jaw-dropping. My husband and I went to Italy ten years ago for our twentieth anniversary. The top one reminds me so much of our stroll through the streets to a little cafe on the first night there. You've got some serious talent!

  4. Linda, Thanks so much, I know I don't have the traditional watery look that are indicative of a watercolor painting, but I like the intense colors so I do my own thing:) I'm glad you enjoy them.

Carol, Steven is much better. This is our first year of school or any kind of out of the home care so our immune systems are being put through the paces. Thanks for your comments about my paintings, you're funny:)

  5. Carrie, Thank you also for the link about the Talk Radio Show with Artists Helping Artists. I am listening now to the "Who's Still Buying Art" broadcast. It's EXCELLENT.

Funny - I recognized the boat painting on their website from one of my friends here and checked her blog. She had gone to one of their workshops. It's a small world.

  6. Hi Carrie!

I'm so glad Steven is feeling better! Let him know I missed seeing his art work.

Carrie, I have to say...I am SO IMPRESSED that you have kept your New Year's resolution to create a painting a week. You are incredible, and the first person I have ever known to actually follow through on a resolution! You are truly inspiring!

This weeks painting in so vibrant, and again I love the way you capture the lighting! I can only hope to actually see these places in person someday.... until then, I'll enjoy the beauty through your paintings :-)

    Hoping all is well!!!

  10. Both of these are gorgeous!!! I am so impressed with the intensity of your colors...and nighttime paintings no less. That top one reminds me of the street where my husband and I had an apartment this summer in Venice. I smile every time I look at these.

  13. These are such wonderful paintings! So striking! I didn't think this would be possible with watercolour. I still don't get how it's been done because the black is SO black! The reflections really 'make' the scene :0)

  14. Thanks so much Olivier!!!

Sandra Thanks for stopping by, I achieved the intense black by mixing my own, I use Indigo and Sepia and other leftover paint on my palette. I paint several layers. I know it's not the traditional watercolor look, but I like big bold colors.
