WIP Wednesday

Hi Everyone,

Thought I would share my wip pictures of my painting "Spring Bouquet".

I also have a request of all my blogger friends.  I need your advice and input.  I've been invited to teach my first workshop in April and I would love to get your take on workshops.  If you haven't taught one you've probably attended one--so what did you love, what did you hate--what do you want out of a workshop.  Please e-mail me or leave me comments.  I'm going to compile info and do a blog post (I will give credit where it is due).  Can't wait to hear what you have to say.

My drawing is laid out.  I used Daniel Smith, carbazole violet, quinacridone purple, quinacridone burnt orange, Holbein lavender (a new fav color, thank you Carol Carter), DS Indigo and Sepia (mixed as my darks) and Schmincke cadmium yellow
Starting to lay in my petals and bright green foliage.  The background I used the above color palette.  For the tulip I used Daniel Smith perminent alizarin crimson (only in the shadow areas), quinacridone red mixed with perinone orange for the bright saturated petals, I glazed just pernione orange on top after it was dry to get a really bright flower.  For the green foliage in front the bright green is Schmnicke May Green, the shadow areas are Holbein shadow green
For the center of the flower, I used Naples yellow and pernione orange both DS colors.  I also used DS burnt umber and sepia.  Holbein lavender (which works beautifully--just in the middle of being opaque and transparent and mixes wonderfully)
Here is the finished piece "Spring Bouquet" 4.75" x 4.75" original watercolor on paper by Carrie Waller.  Prints are available through ImageKind.  22% for a limited time.
Here it is framed.

Here are a couple of paintings that went to a happy home this week.
Hope you have a fabulous week.  My brain hurts now from trying to remember the colors I used in my painting:)

San Pellegrino WIP and Winner Announced

San Pellegrino WIP full sheet, watercolor
Shows the scale of the painting.  And that is a large bottle of Perrier, not the small guy:)

Hi Everyone,

Here is my progress so far.  This painting is a beast so I included a picture with a bottle to show you the scale.  And, yes I realize that it is a Perrier bottle that snuck into the picture but the size is comparable.   I will post my progress on Wednesday, lets hope it's finished by then:)

The winner of my 2nd Blogiversary give away is--drum roll please--Sarah from Monaco Interiors:)  Congratulations Sarah! (I used random.org to generate a winner)

See you Wednesday!

Update!!! WIP and Give Away

Hi Everyone,
San Pellegrino WIP full sheet watercolor
I trust that your week is going well.  It is gray and rainy here and it is making me tired.  I need my sunshine!!!  I'm plugging away on my San Pellegrino bottles, but I'm feeling like they're in that awkward adolescent phase right now.  I have almost started over sooooo many times, but I'm not giving up yet.  I will at least finish the first bottle and then re-evaluate.

Oh and I a few people ask what greens I'm using.  At the moment I'm using Schmincke Pthalo Green, Schmincke Sap Green and Daniel Smith Cascade green.  For the darks I'm using, DS Payne's Gray, DS Lamp Black and DS Indigo

I'm also wondering why it is I seem to procrastinate when it comes to competition entries.  I have several deadlines piling up and I'm scrambling to reach the finish line.  Definitely going to work on this, these deadlines are not a surprise and I do have an entire year to plan soooooo--Major goal for next year---PLAN AHEAD!!!  I want to have things finished a month out so I have some breathing room and a cushion for those unexpected things like commissions that pop up.

I'm still taking entries for my 2nd Blogiversary (is there a correct spelling for this? I think I've seen a dozen ways to spell this).  I'll be doing a drawing to give away a pack of Carrie Waller mini-prints.  Leave a comment with your e-mail address so I can contact you.  I'll announce the winner next Monday!

San Pellegrino WIP and my 2nd Blogiversary GIVEAWAY!!

Hi Everyone,
S. Pellegrino WIP watercolor on paper it's a big one--full sheet
I'm hoping that 2012 is treating you well!!!  I'm posting my WIP.  I'll share my progress again on Wednesday.  It's a big guy.  I'm working on a full sheet.  It's been a slow start because I've not used a mostly green palette before and I had to work out the colors, but now I'm on a roll.

I have let the New Year start without acknowledging my 2nd Blogiversary.  In some ways I can not believe it has been 2 years and in others I feel like this is such a part of my life and I've made such wonderful friends that I've been at this forever.  As I roll into my 3rd year I am proud of what I have accomplished.  I feel renewed and even more motivated.  I was worried that at the end of year 1 I would be burned out by my commitment to paint everyday, but it has become a wonderful habit.  This blog has held me accountable and you wonderful people have pushed me along and been there every step of the way!  I can not Thank You enough!!!!

To celebrate I'm going to be giving away a pack of my mini-prints.  To enter just leave a comment and an e-mail address so that I can contact you.  I'll announce my winner next Monday!

Let's make 2012 the best year yet:)))

Exciting Stuff:)))

Hi Everyone,

Nostalgia on page 36 of the Dec issue!!  So exciting!!!!!
This weekend I got the most exciting package in the mail from France.  I received the newest copy of the best selling French magazine Pratique Des Arts.  And if that wasn't exciting enough my painting "Nostalgia" was on page 36 in the International Portfolio section!!  The editor said it would be in this issue but until you see it in person it just doesn't seem real.  So needless to say I'm over the moon about this!  One of my goals for 2010 was to be in a major publication, I'm not sure I thought this was attainable, but you gotta dream big, right:))  It feels great to receive validation.  Not only that but our blogger buddy Kara Bigda was also in the issue.  That's some kind of special bond:)))))
"The Night Before Christmas" WIP 9.75" x 9.75" watercolor on paper
I'm also going to give you a sneak peek at my newest painting.  Crystal Cook and I pose a  challenge for each other on a monthly basis and this month it was my turn to choose the theme.  I chose the word "Believe" as our inspiration.  My painting is almost completed but I'm calling it quits for the night so I'll have it posted in the next day or so.  Until then I'm sharing a glimpse:))
"Stacked" Gallery Award at Randy Higbee's 6" Squared show
I also wanted to share that I received a Gallery Award in Randy Higbee's 6"Squared exhibit in Costa Mesa CA, earlier this month!!  Extremely happy, I also have a sale from the show.

And for a little Christmas cheer here's a picture of my boys with Santa.  This is the first year Steven, my 5 yr old would dare to go near Santa.  And because his brother would go so would Sam.  And let me tell you Steven didn't waste any time spitting out his list, which I will add was a surprise to Mommy so there may have to be another order filled at the North Pole.  Steven also was super concerned about where Santa had parked his Sleigh.  So cute:)
